My first time flying experience..|Passing immigration and going through checking
first time flying experience..
I am 25 year old engineer who has never been on the plane. More then excited I was a little nervous because I will be going all by myself..never been inside of the airport..or the customs it takes to go first time through the flight..
If I was a kid there would be no problem in asking but as a full grown man its embarrassing to ask others and it seems silly if you ask again and again about how to go through a plane..
My flight Departure was at 12:30 pm that means I had to reach airport by 11:30..but being on time in Delhi is not an easy task because the jam really sucks. So as usual i was late..and reached the airport by 11:45..
The boarding pass:
i went to a desk where a pretty girl was sitting and showed her my e-ticket, she looked at me and said its for first class and for economy go over to the counter 4
i said thanks and went over to counter 4 and an old lady was sitting behind the counter…i understood the difference between economy and business class there(HAHA).
she told me that you are terribly late and possibly miss the flight because i still had to go through complete checking and immigration process.
For immigration you need to fill a form(picture) where you have to fill details like passport number, flight number, etc..There was a very long line of men, women
children of different color, age, nationality just merged together in front of immigration officer. This time was really tough for the people travelling with children
or heavy bags or already late people like myself because this line moves slow and when i say slow it means really slow. Thank god to the airport authorities there were
many counters of immigration to make process faster, By this time it was 11:50 am and after 40 minutes the boarding will stop and my first flying experience will end terribly
if i miss my first flight.
The Passport dilemma
I was in terrible dilemma the first time about the need of passport to go to Nepal. I visited a lot of sites to ask about that of you really need passport or not.
some people said not and some were in favor no site 100% said No, you don’t need passport. Since my company already booked ticket under my name i had no choice but to go
with my ID proof only. Luckily i reached the airport and they did not ask for passport and i went through immigration.
Passing immigration and going through checking:
Hurry! i passed the immigration..but sadly i have to go through very tough and long security check(thanks to 9/11 and other plane hijack incidents). With only minutes
left to my plane departure i begin my journey to a 100 meter long security line full of people. The guy just in front of me had 6 black bags and each bag looks as if it
ate another 2 bags for breakfast, in short they were really big. Thanks to a security guard he opened another security checkpoint when he saw the crowd. I could not
waste another minute therefore i had already opened up all my bags and removed all metal items in my possession when i was in the queue. Since i was very much in stress
therefore i was sweating quite profusely and the guard who was doing full body check stopped. He asked me if everything is OK..and i just told him in stammering voice that i am late that’s
why so much sweat. He said the same thing that you have only 15 minutes to get on the plane and possibly not gonna make it.
Now after passing security, i had two heavy bags one on my back and one in my hand, completely confused and scrambled head, a ticket and legs to run. Now here is an interesting fact..
- Do you know that terminal 3 of IGI airport is one of the biggest airport terminal in the world. I knew it not from wikipedia or some guy told me but by running almost 1 and a half km in 5-6 minutes to reach my gate..
- just when i reached at the gate mentioned in my ticket i saw the last bus leaving the airport to the fucking airplane and i just entered into the crowd.
- i could not believe despite the fact that everyone was telling me that i am not gonna make it, still i made to
the plane. i asked a stranger to confirm that is this the plane leaving for Kathmandu…and he said YES. This was a mother of all moments i felt in the whole day..
- I felt like this was my destiny to take this flight.
I wanted to write more on this first time experience but time is the most scarce commodity but i will if i get any request from readers about this..till then Bye
